THICK SMOKE RISING FROM THE PENTHOUSE OF THE OBASANJO HILLTOP RESIDENCE
THICK SMOKE RISING FROM THE PENTHOUSE OF THE OBASANJO HILLTOP RESIDENCE
A fire which reportedly started around 4:30pm Thursday, has gutted a section of the multi-million naira hilltop residence of former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.
Although it is not yet clear what started the fire, we gathered that the ex-president’s secretary’s office, located within the expansive mansion, at Ibara GRA, was gutted.
Meanwhile, an Ogun State Fire Service truck marked OG 122 AO9 got to the scene of the fire incident an hour after it was detected and was quickly joined by another 10mins later even as men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, the Nigeria Police, State Security Service and close friends of the ex-president battled to contain the fire from spreading to other parts of the sprawling estate.

FRSC:New minimum driving age for commercial drivers now pegged at 26.

SPONSOR AD

The new minimum age for commercial drivers in Nigeria is now pegged at 26. The Federal Road Safety Corps announced this recently. FRSC said underage commercial drivers are responsible for some road accidents in the country.
Christopher Ademoluti, Kwara State sector commander of FRSC while speaking at the inauguration of commercial driver’s licence in Ilorin said the measure would ensure that only mature commercial drivers would have the opportunity to drive and convey others.
“We want to peg the minimum age of a commercial driver in Nigeria at 26 to enable them have the experience, maturity and expertise to drive and convey people, unlike the present situation where we have underage people like 16-year-olds driving commercial vehicles,” he said.
He said the new upgraded National Driver’s Licence(NDL) was capable of reducing road traffic crashes on Nigerian roads.
“With the new driver’s licence, we want to have all the data of the commercial drivers in Nigeria. We don’t want to have a driver, who drives an 18-seater bus, to endanger the lives of the 18 people. It is only one commercial driver that dies where 18 people die”, he said. The FRSC sector commander also said that six driving schools had been approved to train commercial drivers before they are issued with the new driver’s licence.

Sheikh Ahmed Gumi: Christians are more dangerous than Boko Haram

SPONSOR AD

Controversial Muslim cleric, Sheikh Ahmed Gumi, has declared that Christians are more deadly than Boko Haram, the Islamic terrorist sect which has killed thousands of people mostly worshippers in places of worship.
Gumi made this declaration on his facebook page. He also said some Christians have hidden under the guise of government apparatus to perpetrate the murder of many prominent politician of northern extraction.
Gumi also linked the insecurity in the country to the activities of unidentified Christians whose motives have been to take over the leadership of the country.
Sheikh Ahmed Gumi
Below is the full statement from Sheikh Gumi’s facebook page (Click Here)
WHY THE EVIL OF TERROR MAY LINGER
Any entity that employs unauthorized killing as a principle in achieving whatever goal it aspires is EVIL. Henceforth it is evident that the evil of terror is not confined to a small group of fanatical Muslims youth that employ the tools of terror to achieve their goals or revenge any perceived injustice against them or against Muslims as they claim. The Evil of terror is bigger and greater than that. The Evil of terror knows no boundary, religious, ethnic or racial. Evil killers are found everywhere.
For the Muslims, we are very fortunate that only a small fraction of misguided youth have recently adopted this evil ideology. Islam has seriously condemned the unauthorized killing of souls. The authority in Islam only belongs to a government duly elected by the consensus of the Ummah. We therefore see that except for very few instances, Muslims do not commit murder. The rampant murder committed in the west, is as a result of the irreligious life the west has adopted and bears little with the clamor of gun control. In Yemen, the populace is armed yet such murders are not an occurrence because Islam instills in the individual the discipline of self-restrain and control and forbids taking of one’s life and that of the others too. This cannot be said about the other religions.
The more deadly evil, is that evil that camouflage behind the ‘government’s security agencies’ to kill innocent people either to perpetuate power or score some political goals. For instance in Nigeria we have seen how some Christian elements in the Nigerian security apparatus have been killers of innocent Muslims leaders for political reasons. Such elements are deadlier evil than boko haram. They aimed to destroy the Muslims as a whole by decapitating their leadership thus exposing the Ummah to perpetual subservience. That is why Ababakar Tafawa Balewa, Sardauna, Akintola, and Gen Murtala all went victims of these terrorist.
These similar terrorist are still the ones now that are supposedly ‘leading’ the war against terror or war against  boko haram. It is a double edge sword of r them. Kill Muslim leaders and kill the youth at the same time all under camouflage. They are entrenched in the security apparatus. They are retiring good Muslims in the armed forces to enable them perfect their evil plans they started since 1966. They think they are in control because they are blinded by hate, rancor and evil, they cannot see that their evil is exposed and evident. They cannot see that Allah Has taken up the fight against them since their intentions are evil. Kaduna was meant to be devoured like Maiduguri when Allah The Al-mighty stroke.
They cannot see that you don’t guaranty your life by killing others; you do that by giving life to others. They fantasize that they can keep power by evil machinations whereas power belongs to Allah. Nigeria can only know peace and stability when such evil elements of the security apparatus are flushed out of the system instead of the good diligent officers. This is the deadliest segment that has been neglected and the public should know and watch. Evil will never prosper.
May Allah protect us all from all Evil.

Photo evidence:Femi Otedola’s past haunting him,in trouble with 26 year-old baby mama.

SPONSOR AD

It’s true that the rich also cry! He might be showing whiff of money and wealth in town but the oil and gas magnate, Femi Otedola past is already haunting him like shadow. The former Lagos State governor’s son, Michael Otedola, Femi is having a serious issue with his 26 year-old love child mama, Olayinka Odukoya. The child at the centre of this mumbo-jumbo, Christie is said to be a split image of Femi, the Forte Oil boss.
Then loved-up Femi, we learnt, had put Olayinka in a family way when he was selling stationeries at Iponri area of Lagos, and the result of that effort was 26 years old, Christie, the first from his loin but his mum did not only show disapproval, she condemned their dalliance: she sent the poor baby mother away and took the baby to her custody.
otedola baby mama photos

In spite of Femi’s mother’s rejection, the arrow of love hit Femi again and he found himself in the arms of Olayinka, who second time around got pregnant for the Femi who has since married delectable, Nana Otedola, the Managing Director, Garment Care and blessed with children. As fate would have it, she lost the pregnancy seven months after. Since then, their paths never crossed, Olayinka was shut away from her only child, and her world became empty. She became lonesome, afraid of men, afraid to love again. Now she’s on a search for her long-lost daughter, her treasure, Christy.
Below is the interesting story as said by the mother of the first daughter of Femi, the former Zenom oil boss with pictures to prove, the emotional distressed mother provides insight into what went wrong with the romance, how Mr Otedola and his parents hoodwinked her into parting with her child and other intimate details in this interview…Enjoy.

For the purpose of this interview, can i have your full names?
I’ am Olayinka Odukoya.
What kind of relationship existed between you and Mr. Femi Otedola?
We used to have a love affair.
Was the love affair one that your parents knew about? I mean your own parents and his parents?
What happened was that I just finished from secondary school at that time and I was even working when he approached me for a relationship. I accepted his advances and somewhere along the line, I realised that I’d taken in for him. And this was a time I was just offered an admission into the School of Nursing in Ikoyi; I was only waiting to go for pre-registration interview before I realised I was pregnant. And at that point in time, there was a man, Mr. Tobun father’s house at Odo-Irangusi.
It was through my friend that was dating the contractor that I met Femi. And he promised me heaven and earth. As a matter of fact, we both sworn to an oath with the Holy Bible never to leave each other. I was about 21 years at that time and it was at that point that we started sleeping together and I got pregnant for him. And he accepted it. But in the long run, I realised that he didn’t tell his parents at home that he had put a lady in the family way. It was that Mr. Tobun that later went to his dad to tell him that his son had impregnated a young lady in Ijebu. And his mum later called him to probe him over it after the dad complained to her.
SCROLL DOWN FOR PHOTO EVIDENCE…
otedola baby mama photos
But he lied to his mum initially that he did not impregnate anybody. Meanwhile, I used to go to their house regularly before then to the extent that all his younger siblings were familiar with me. His mum even knew me, though she did not know that I was dating her son which was the real purpose of my frequent visit to their house. She thought I was only a friend to Femi’s sisters. So, since I took in, I would go to him to collect money for my upkeep and things like that. As a matter of fact, I contemplated aborting the pregnancy at a point because I felt it was affecting the continuation of my education but unfortunately for me then, an old man overheard me telling a friend about my planned abortion and the old man went straight to leak it to my mum. So, my mum came to take me from where I was back home so as to prevent me from aborting the pregnancy. And my dad too also prevailed on me never to try aborting the pregnancy with the counseling that it is not only people that are well educated that make it in life. So, I later went to tell Femi that my parents were well aware of the pregnancy and he also plead with me to keep the pregnancy.
What was Mr. Femi Otedola doing then? Was he working or still in school?
He was a trader at Iponri Shopping Complex selling stationery materials. And since his dad was running a printing press then, he was also supplying them materials to work with. And when we realised he was not showing up at our house like it was expected, my parents said I should tell him that they wanted to meet his parents and he said no problems. But when he refused to come with his parents like he promised, a sister to my mum who was a registrar was even nursing the doubt that I might not know the real owner of my pregnancy and she attributed her doubt to the fact that the Otedola’s were well-to-do and very responsible, so they would not tolerate their son impregnate a girl and not do the right thing. So, there was a resolve that my mum should follow me to their house and when we got there, it was Femi himself that opened the gate for us. And when we met his dad, Baba Otedola, and told him a bout the pregnancy, he probed Femi over it and he told his dad that he was the one responsible for it. And the dad said he would have loved his mum to be at home for the meeting because when he first heard about the issue and raised it with the mum, Femi vehemently denied knowing anything about the pregnancy to the extent that the mum was saying any girl that was claiming to have gotten pregnant for her son should go and take care of it in her parent’s house. Since her son had said he didn’t impregnate any girl. But the dad said we should not worry about it and that he would always send money for my upkeep. And shortly before I would deliver my baby, the mum came around at the prompting of Baba Otedola, I guess, she came with Baba Otedola’s elder sister. They said they were the owners of the pregnancy since it’s their son that was responsible for it. And when I delivered my baby, a naming ceremony was organised at their house for my daughter.
So, since everything was cordial to that point, how did the denial of access to your daughter come into play?
Thank you. That’s exactly what I am about to tell you. After the naming ceremony, Femi came later to tell me that his mum said he should not marry me. And I was like if she says that then, maybe you should leave me alone. But he said he could not do that. Later on, I told him I wanted to learn Hair Dressing since I could not go to the School of Nursing any more. But he advised that I should go to a Catering school instead. So, I went to Catering school and it was while I was there that I got pregnant for him again. But his mum still stood strongly against our getting married. Meanwhile, I had a forced labour when the pregnancy got into the 7th month which I had as a still birth. In fact, I almost lost my life during the delivery. It was the placenta that came out first before the dead baby came out buttocks first instead of the head. My dad later went to meet him that, Femi, so, so, thing happened to me. Though, he was fully aware that I was pregnant for him again, but he apparently did not inform his parents. So, it was when my dad went to their house that his dad too knew about it and challenged him over it. But in his usual manner, he denied having anything to do with the pregnancy and I later told him that thank God I did not die in the course of the forced labour because that is how he would have denied me in death.
I reminded him of how he lied that he did not know anything about Christy’s pregnancy before he later accepted to be the one responsible. And shortly after that was when his mum became extremely hostile to me, telling his son that he saw girls from rich background, he didn’t go to them. That, why would he go for someone from a humble background like me. And it was because Femi told me that his mum might accept me if we had a second child that I accepted to get pregnant for him again. But when they said I should bring my daughter Christy to them when she was a little over 2 years, so that she could start kindergarten, I left her for them. But ever since then, the mum would not allow me to see my daughter.
There was even a festive period that my younger siblings went to their house to ask them to allow my daughter to come and spend some time with us, the mum refused. And I later went myself but as soon as the mum saw me, she took my daughter inside and locked her up. And when all my efforts to see my daughter became abortive, I later told them that I would always be my daughter’s mother because they cannot buy another mother for her no matter how much they prevent me from seeing her. And again, my mum’s younger sister told me not to worry because when it gets to a point my daughter would ask for her mum. But when she (Christy) was 15 and was schooling in Akure, Ondo State, while she lived with her father’s younger brother, I still made an attempt to go and see her there, yet they prevented me. And that was the point in time I decided to leave the South-West for the Northern Part of the country to cool-off. So, I stayed and worked in the North for some time before I returned few years ago. Meanwhile, I was already aware that my daughter had been taken abroad for further studies.
And I even made an attempt to be close to Otedola’s house but each time I went, Femi’s mum was always like “what do you want?” And I would tell her that I only came around to say hello and also to know if you are hearing from my daughter.
But when it got to a point, I could no longer cope with not seeing my daughter, I sent a Reverend Father to the mum to beg her for me. And she was like I should never again in my life send any emissary to beg her again. And about 7 years ago, I told my younger brother that I felt I would need to take the matter to a relevant government authority to contest my right to see my daughter for me. But my brother said I should not go that far that he would go and talk to Femi man to man. Meanwhile, at that point I was always texting Femi asking about the well-being of my daughter, he would not reply any of the messages. There was even a day I went to his Zenon House in Victoria Island. He saw me face to face as he was driving in because I was standing at the gate. And when he got out of the vehicle, he looked back at me and I said “Femi, you are the one I have come to see”. But he rushed into the office and never came out till I left. I got there around 8am and left at 12 noon. I later dropped a note for him with his security guys stating that I did not come to fight him but to see him and ask after my daughter. The number that my younger brother had was no longer going through, so, he got another number of his from me which he called without any one picking it. And he decided to send him a text that why would he not allow his sister to see her daughter. And that he should redress the situation since the child belongs to him and his sister.
But by the second or third day, he called his mum to go and warn Felix, that is my brother, that he was threatening his life. And the mum went straight to my dad’s house to fight him. That he should warn his son who was threatening the life of her son. My dad called my younger brother from Ijebu immediately asking why my
brother would wade into the matter. And when my brother went to Ijebu some time later, he told anyone that cared to listen to go and tell Femi’s mum that he had come to town and that she should come and arrest him, maybe the Police would be able to resolve the matter once and for all. But after spending 3 days without seeing anyone come to arrest him, he returned to Lagos.
So what happened after then?
We decided to give them some time again before raising issues over the matter. In fact, at a point, I decided to go to Human Rights Advocacy Groups and I was already in Ikeja with pictures before my brother called me and plead that I should not do anything like that. Because no two opposing parties in a court case return as friends.
He said he believed dialogue could still do it. Meanwhile, I had gone to the monarch in our town, Kabiyesi Odu-Iragusi, to plead with them for me but they still turned deaf ears. I even went to one Tejuosho’s son who is Femi’s friend in Ilupeju, Lagos, to discuss the matter with him. But still nothing changed. My brother even went to the Kabiyesi over the matter for the second time, yet they did not yield to my request to see my daughter. So, about 5 years ago, Femi’s mum told me that I should not worry that as soon as my daughter was through with her Masters Degree, I would be allowed to see her. And after Christy finished her master’s, it was Femi’s mum that called to tell me about it and asked if I was coming to Ijebu for Xmas to which I said yes. And she said she would make sure that I see my daughter. But as I speak to you my brother, I have still not set my eyes on my daughter.
Interestingly enough, during the last subsidy removal crises, I was just leaving Irangusi for Omu, when one of my younger brothers called me that he just sighted my daughter in town. And I took a bike with N1,500 that day to return to Iragusi, a journey that was not supposed to be more than N300.00. But when I almost got to Otedola’s house, I caught a glimpse of my daughter being chauffeur-driven out and I was trying to wave down the vehicle but she did not see me.
How long ago is it now that you had a contact with your daughter last?
I have not had any contact with her since they took her from me when she was a little over 2 years old.
Do you have any idea of what she is doing abroad now?
I think she is now working there. Because Femi’s mum once told me something like that.
And you have not spoken with Mr. Femi Otedola too?
Yes. I have not spoken with him ever since. Even when his dad celebrated his birthday last year and I went there, he avoided me all through. Even, his older brother who I spoke with and told that they have not allowed me to see my daughter for years could not believe it because the brother just returned to Nigeria from abroad. And he promised to do something about. Yet, nothing has happened.
Are you married to someone else as we speak?
Not really. I only had an affair with a man for whom I also have a daughter, Eniola. But I could not bring myself to marry him because Femi’s experience has made me to be scared of men.
So, what exactly do you want from Mr. Femi Otedola?
All I want is access to my daughter and the full rights to be a mother to her. Because they could have told her mum i

U.S to send soldiers early next year to tackle Boko Haram

SPONSOR AD

We will start seeing U.S Soldiers in Nigeria in 2013 as part of efforts to curb  and train countries to battle terrorists. The U.S Army brigade will dispatch small teams to as many as 35 African countries. It is part of Pentagon’s effort to battle extremists.
The small teams will only train and equip and will not be permitted to conduct military operations without specific  approval from secretary of defense. The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa, and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.
The terror threat from al-Qaida linked groups in Africa has been growing steadily, particularly with the rise of the extremist Islamist sect Boko Haram in Nigeria. Officials also believe that the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, which killed the ambassador and three other Americans, may have been carried out by those who had ties to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.

For the guys:Five sure ways to make a woman want you

SPONSOR AD

Women want the ideal man who is confident, self-sufficient and respectable.
Getting women to fall for you is not as hard as it may seem. Making women feel a deep attraction to you doesn’t require expensive gifts, extravagant gestures or rock hard abs. In fact, all it really requires is a little charm and a few good manners. Mastering the following 5 qualities will set you on your way to becoming the man women will be fighting for.sure ways to make a woman want you
1. Present yourself as the ideal man
One of the worst mistakes a man can make is being insecure, desperate and intimidated-constantly seeking a woman’s approval. Women want the ideal man who is confident, self-sufficient and respectable. When you display these traits, along with maintaining strong eye contact, good posture and slow body gestures and movements, most women will take notice of you
2. Learn to dress smarter
The first impression matters a lot and how you dress is a big part of the impression you create. Just like women use make-up to appear prettier than they really are, men can improve their appearance through their style of dress. Keeping yourself up and adapting a style that suits you sends the message that you know how to dress, you’re unique, interesting, mature and successful. Most women love clean, well-groomed and stylishly dressed men because it shows that you are organized and can take care of yourself.
3. Make friends with women
Keeping friendships with women is one of the best strategies for consistently meeting women. In fact, making female friends can lead to you being introduced to lots of available women and will help you get over any anxiety you may have of approaching women. Women will more often talk to men who are with other women, so by keep these friendships intact, you’ll make HUGE headway in becoming the high-status guy women can’t get enough of.
4. Give them genuine compliments
Learning to fulfill a woman’s craving for compliments will definitely set you apart from other men; however, most men mess it up and end up sitting alone at the bar. To compliment women the right way, the most important thing to remember is not what you say, but how you say it. Focus on the their values and what they deem important. Give compliments with a confident voice tone and a smile on your face and never underestimate the importance of eye contact.
5. Let them chase you
Quickly pursuing attractive women can often cause them to run away from you. Instead, stop chasing women and make them pursue you. Doing this will set you up as a challenge in their minds and cause them to be MORE LIKELY to want to be with you in a romantic way.

Bus driver in Lagos killed by LASTMA official during struggle today

SPONSOR AD

The LASTMA officials tried to seize the deceased car.
A commercial bus driver, Isaac Popoola, died on Monday after a fierce struggle with an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA.
The 54-year-old breathed his last after the traffic officer allegedly hit his head on a metallic part of the bus as they struggled for control of the steering wheel.
Witnesses said that the bus left Egbeda/Akowonjo at around 6 a.m. on its way to Oshodi when a LASTMA patrol van pulled up in front of the vehicle as they approached Oshodi.
“Two officers approached the bus and one told the driver to come down and he refused. So they began to struggle,” a witness said.
The bus conductor ran into the nearby Mosafejo police station, and before he returned, his driver’s lifeless body was resting in the driver’s seat.
And a little crowd, which had gathered during the scuffle, had seized the officer.
At the Area F Police Headquarters, Ikeja, Mr. Popoola’s lifeless body lay in his bus with Lagos registration number XL166SMK. His colleagues and family members gathered around the bus; the wife’s periodic cry shattering the stillness of the afternoon.
“He is very gentle, humble. I don’t know why the LASTMA man killed my husband. Now I’m a widow,” said Dupe, the deceased’s wife, who stated that she was preparing to go to her shop when someone broke the news to her via a phone call.
“From where will I start? My children do not have father again. Who’s going to render the help? Very terrible, I can’t bear it. Who’s going to help me?” Mrs. Popoola said.
LASTMA have quickly disowned the alleged perpetrators of Monday’s fatal incident.
While naming Adesanya Olatunde and Ogunride Oludele as some of the culprits, the agency stated that the officers “acted on their own” and flouted operational guidelines.
“Adesanya was later identified by the Provost Marshall of the agency and handed over to the police while Oludele, who was reported to be off duty as at the time of the incident, was still at large,” Babatunde Edu, the General Manager of the agency, said in a statement.
“Effort is on to arrest other suspects connected with the incident,” he added.

Victor Osuagwu, nigerian comic actor weds with a truck

SPONSOR AD

Celebrities frequently boost their star appeal by adding a touch of class to their birthdays and weddings.  Nowadays, it has become a trend for many A-List actors to turn their weddings into occasions of mind-blowing extravaganza and razzmatazz. Consequently, some celebrities have bragging rights to first-of its-kind weddings. Famous examples include the 1996 Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s white wedding on board a mid-flight plane from Lagos to Benin and the recent Stephanie Okereke-Idahosa’s “French fairy tale nuptials” in Paris.
However, when it was the turn of Nollywood comedian, Victor Ifeanyichukwu Osuagwu, rather than engineering another occasion of glitz and glamour, the comedy merchant chose to spice his wedding with an unprecedented comic twist. Instead of riding with his bride in a “Just Wedded” branded vehicle to the venue of the reception, the man famously called “Adam Piccolo,” fresh from the altar, walked down the aisle straight into the back of an open truck. This unscripted high-octane comic relief was the interlude of the wedding which took place on December 8, 2012, in Port Harcourt when the star of Adams Goes To School officially solemnized his union with Roseline Nchelem, his wife of over 12 years and mother of his four children.

The bride and the groom arrived separately in Black G-Class Mercedes and Wine colour Range Rover respectively at St. Paul Anglican Cathedral, located at Diobu Garrison Junction, Aba Road Port Harcourt. The colourful nuptial was attended by fans, friends and family members dressed in Gold and Wine colour clothes. The service started by 9 a.m. and it went like clock-work with the usual knot-tying formalities. The Osuagwu children, two boys and two girls, were part of the bridal train as Little Grooms and Little Brides. In fact, the ring bearer was the couple’s son, while the best man and chief bridesmaid were none other than, Nollywood actor Francis Duru and his wife, Adokiye.
After the exchange of vows, Osuagwu, formerly a member of the Boys Brigade, was honoured by the brigade corps in a display match during which he was awarded a badge of honour, before curtain was drawn on the church service with a 33-category photo session.
By 12 noon, guests left the church and made their way to the venue of the reception at UPE Primary School opposite University of Port Harcourt. As the wedding convoy, led by the brigade band and a Rapid Response Squad police team, traversed the streets of Port Harcourt, they attracted attention and the over 30-minute drive became a massive street procession with the kind of razzmatazz peculiar to popular street carnivals in the Caribbean.
The reception was a series of activities that include cake-cutting, kolanuts presentation, and dance session. Thereafter, the traditional marriage rites followed. The occasion was further pepped up by the appearance of other Nollywood funnymen namely John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, and the duo of Chinedu Ikedieze and Osita Iheme, famously known as Aki and Pawpaw. The crowd went agog the moment the diminutive pair was spotted. Similarly, Mr Ibu was mobbed by the crowd. Other celebrity that graced the occasion includes former President of Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, (AGN) Ejike Asiegbu, “Kade” singer Muma Gee and her husband as well as stand up comedian Julius Agwu, who thrilled the audience with his hit song “Handwork.” The reception was enlivened with music and various cultural displays. Osuagwu was so inebriated with joy that he danced uncontrollably round the open-air venue. “I am so honoured, seeing a lot of people come to my wedding. I appreciate everybody for coming,” an overwhelmed Osuagwu gave his vote of thanks to all. Unfortunately a downpour forced an early end to the show at about 5:30 pm.
Most of the out-of-town guests who attended the wedding lodged at the Tokyu Grand Hotel, located at Stadium Road. Following the interruption of the festivity by the rain, a sort of after-party ensued in at the hotel. In the thick of the revelry, another Nollywood ace comedian, Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, made an appearance at about 9 pm. Few days after, Osuagwu’s “wedding in a truck” was the talk of the town in Port Harcourt and its environs.

Housemaid kills boss and takes over his business

SPONSOR AD

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a manager and a housemaid for killing their boss, Alhaja Sikirat Eko, in Omole Phase 1, Lagos State.
Eko was said to be running a restaurant and bar in her compound, where she lived alone with the maid.
According to the police authorities, the suspects allegedly killed Eko at her home located on 5, Babatunde Ladega Street and kept her corpse within the premises.
The suspects were said to have continued to run the restaurant, giving neighbours and customers the impression that the deceased had travelled.
The two were said to have run out of luck when relatives of the deceased came on a visit. When the suspects could not provide a satisfactory answer, the matter was said to have been reported at Area G Command, in Ogba.
A police source who preferred to remain anonymous, told our correspondent that the manager threw Eko into a well inside the compound along with a generator.
The manager was said to have taken her phone which he used in impersonating her.
“The manager was using the deceased’s phone and assumed her identity. Sometimes, he would send text messages with her phone, telling people that all was well”, he said.
It was learnt that when the house was thoroughly searched, Eko’s corpse was found in a decomposing state.
A family friend, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, “Mummy (Eko) has just one child and she lives in the United Kingdom. When she could not get her mother on the telephone, she called relatives to help her find out what was wrong.
“When the relatives got there, the manager told them that she had travelled. The relatives became suspicious because the house was left open and the manager behaved as if he was the owner of the house. The relatives then reported the matter to the police.”
Our correspondent, who visited the area on Thursday, observed that the gate of the premises was locked.
A security guard in the area said Eko hadn’t been seen by neighbours in over two months.
The security guard described the deceased as a very nice but strict woman.
He said, “The last time we saw madam (Eko) was during Sallah. When we asked the housemaid her whereabouts, she said she had travelled to Abuja. I became suspicious because her vehicle was still parked outside the compound.
“It wasn’t until Saturday when policemen stormed the area that we knew what had happened. Policemen arrested about five of us, thinking that we were among but fortunately, the manager and the maid confessed.
“The incident is very sad because madam (Eko) was a very nice person. There was one time that my motorcycle was seized. She was the one that urged the police to give it back to me.”
When contacted on the telephone, the spokesperson for the state police command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

Guiness World Records Recognises Messi’s Goal Scoring Record

SPONSOR AD

Barcelona football star Lionel Messi has written his way into the history books after notching up the Guinness World Records title for the most goals in a calendar year by netting his 86th goal of 2012.
The 25-year-old Argentine edged past Gerd Mueller’s long-standing record of 85 – set in 1972 – to set a new benchmark, which includes goals for club and country.
Messi clinched the record after hitting the target twice in Barca’s 2-1 win over Real Betis on Sunday.
The Three-time World Player of the Year drilled in an angled shot after 16 minutes to equal the German’s record before adding a second with a shot driven low in the 25th minute to set the new mark.
However, according to the Zambian FA, the record was never Muller’s to be broken, but was rather Kabwe Warriors striker Godfrey Chitalu who scored 107 goals, also in 1972.
The five-time Zambian player of the year’s feat was never officially recognised by FIFA, but Zambian officials have approached football’s governing body to have the goals officially recorded.
There have also been claims from Brazilian club Flamengo Messi is still one goal shy of the record set by Brazilian Zico, who the club say scored 89 goals in 1979.
The midfielder, who played in three World Cup campaigns for the South Americans between 1978-86, scored 81 goals for the Rio-based club, seven with Brazil and one in a friendly

Arsenal Owner Apologises For Cup Exit

Stan Kroenke
Stan Kroenke
Stan Kroenke has given his total support to Arsene Wenger against a backdrop of training ground tension.
Despite apologising to supporters after Tuesday’s embarrassing Capital One Cup defeat at Bradford, the club’s American owner is unwavering in his belief that the Frenchman remains the man to lead Arsenal.
Kroenke will back up his support with a January transfer budget and will tell Wenger to spend heavily in a bid to transform the club’s season.
The manager’s contract expires in 2014 and there is no desire by the Gunners’ board to terminate the deal.
...what else can a man do to win?
…what else can a man do to win?
Kroenke, chief executive Ivan Gazidis and the club’s key decision-makers still view Wenger as one of the best managers in world football.
Gazidis on Wednesday night told members of Arsenal Supporters Trust: “Last night [Tuesday] was not good enough and it made us all upset and angry. I would like to apologise to all of you, especially the fans who travelled up there. You deserved better.”
However, tensions at Arsenal’s London Colney’s HQ have piled on the problems for Wenger as he faces the biggest fight of his 16 years at the club.
Concerns are emerging over his working relationship with assistant manager Steve Bould, who joined the coaching set-up in the summer.
Sources claim Bould has become increasingly marginalised during training sessions and is frustrated by his lack of input into first-team matters.
Former Arsenal midfielder Stewart Robson, who was employed by the club until last year, claimed: “Arsene Wenger, because he has got a massive ego, and because he’s a dictator when it comes to Arsenal Football Club, is not allowing Steve Bould to do any work.”

“He cries. He wees. He saves the world”: A New Ad for the “Godbaby” Toy Debuts this Christmas

SPONSOR AD

GodBaby-bannerIn the latest bid to strengthen the link between the birth of Jesus Christ and Christmas, a new and different image of baby Jesus is due to hit the streets of Britain this Christmas, with the new Godbaby poster from ChurchAds.net – the Churches Advertising Network. The striking image of a fictional ‘Godbaby toy’ aims to make the Christmas story appeal to the younger generation, and puts Christ at the centre of conversations.
Bishop Nick Baines, giving the image an enthusiastic approval, says “It’s another strong and arresting image. It will surprise some and disturb others… Which is exactly what the real Jesus did. And it forces us beyond the tinsel to the human reality of ‘God among us”.
The ChurchAds poster comes with the slogan: “He cries. He wees. He saves the world”. ChurchAds says it wants to appeal to the younger generations and put Jesus at the centre of conversations. It hopes the poster will resonate with passers-by searching for that ‘must-have’ Christmas gift.
“We focus too much on the material nature of the festival and miss the point – that Jesus, the true Godbaby, was born human and must never be turned into a commodity,” the organisation said. The poster will appear on billboards and outside churches nationwide in the run-up to Christmas

The Chairperson of the Dansol Group of Schools PTA, Mrs. Adepeju Dinyo, while speaking at the Teachers Appreciation Day luncheon, said that the parents of Dansol found it imperative to appreciate the teachers because they had been able to instill right values in the pupils.
While presenting the car and other awards during the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. David Abraham, said it was pleasing to know that teachers could get parts of their rewards on earth. He commended the PTA for the appreciative attitude they had demonstrated to teachers. He expressed confidence that this would motivate the teachers to do more.
Meanwhile, explaining the rationale for choosing Mrs. Adeyeye as the best teacher, the research consultant, Mr. Imeh Akpan, said the award for the best teacher was based on the school appraisal system, the results of pupils at internal and external examinations and results of survey conducted among the pupils. He said it was a keen contest among the teachers as there were no wide differential margins in the areas of commitment to duty. “The Yoruba teacher won on all parameters which made her emerge as the best teacher.”

Strikes Loom in our Universities again as FG’s Meeting with SSANU, NASU, NAAT Ends in Deadlock

SPONSOR AD

Education Minister, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i
A move by stakeholders to avoid another strike by staff of the nation’s tertiary institutions has once again hit the rocks. A meeting between the Federal Government and the non-teaching staff unions in the universities to resolve the pending crisis and planned strike over the Earned Allowance and the report of the committee on NEEDS Assessment in universities ended without any meaningful agreement.
The meeting was held at the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation late Friday night. The unions — Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) — have, therefore, resolved to commence a seven-day warning strike on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, president of SSANU, Comrade Samson Ugwoke, President of NAAT, Comrade Sani Suleiman and the General-Secretary of NASU, Comrade Peter Adeyemi, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said the meeting, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, with the Minister of Education, Professor Ruqquatu Rufai, in attendance, could not reach any meaningful conclusion hence the warning strike would go ahead as planned.
On his own part, NASU general secretary said his union had invited its members to a meeting at the University of Ibadan on Tuesday to deliberate on the outcome of the meeting with the government and decide on the way forward; SSANU President declared that the union would use Monday (today) to mobilise members across the country for the commencement of strike on Tuesday. However, the NAAT President said the decision to go on strike remains, and that the union had directed its branches to hold congress meeting and embark on the strike.

Manchester Derby: Ferdinand Pays Respect To Hart For Stepping In As City Fan Attempts Attack

SPONSOR AD

Rio Ferdinand of Manchester United, Joe Hart & Carlos Tevez of Manchester City Apprehend A Pitch Invader
Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand, has paid tribute to Manchester City keeper, Joe Hart for shielding him from a fan who attempted to attack him.
Good sportsmanship is about playing the game square and fair and accepting the outcome in good faith. This is especially so in the game of soccer which has been riddled with racism allegations among players, fans to players and most recently, match officials to players. The ability of sportsmen and women to rise above pettiness and unhealthy rivalry is an added asset and this is what Joe Hart, Man City’s keeper displayed on Sunday when he intervened as a fan ran towards Ferdinand, moments after the United defender had been cut on the forehead by a coin thrown from the crowd.
To show his heartfelt appreciation for the unexpected display of good sportsmanship he got from his national team-mate who was at the receiving end of a painful 2-3 lose to Man Utd., Ferdinand tweeted: “Respect to Joe Hart for protecting that idiot who ran on!! Love the banter between fans but there is a point when it goes too far…calm it!”
Ferdinand suffered the cut when he was struck as United’s players celebrated Robin van Persie’s 92nd-minute winner
